Forgive my lack of posting here.  Things have been going well & I've been incredibly busy "living life."  I've decided that I really don't have time to be posting on here much and what news/updates in my life are best expressed off-line.  That being said, I may decide to revive this blog again, but there will probably not be another post for a while.

I have, however, been blogging as part of a group blog, called Youth Reform, which you can find here:  http://youthreform.blogspot.com/.  It's a blog by a group of 20-something Catholics in St. Louis.  I invite you to check it out.

Transitions

These couple weeks have been very much about transitions.  As I posted last time, I have a lot of changes going on in my life and so far all is well...which for me is saying something as large changes in my life tend to result in a lot of stress.  In all honesty, it doesn't matter much whether the change is for better or for worse--I'll stress out anyway.  I suppose it's partly a vicious cycle since when I get stressed out I tend to act more on my emotions and less on rational thought, which leads me to get carried away with the highs and lows of life, thereby creating more stress.  Mostly I've come to realize it's an unwillingness to really trust in God.  How strange it is to realize God's immense love for me personally and yet become more selfish and stingy in returning His love.  Small steps, I suppose, are the only way to tackle the mountain.

God's Providence once again is amusing.  This Pentacost weekend, the high celebration in the liturgical year of the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, will be the priestly ordinations both here and at home.  Please keep all these good men in your prayers.  Unfortunately, I'll manage to not make either of them as, instead, I'll be on a discernment retreat in New York.  I ask for your prayers too as I wait to see what the good Lord has in mind for me.

I've lost my sense of time

This has officially been one of the loooongest weeks ever!!  Maybe the flood and 3 exams had something to do with it.  On top of that, I've had a lot of things going on spiritually that is really demanding my attention.  Luckily I'm not the only one at school to be that crazy; my friend thought Friday was Sunday.    I'm done with three of my four exams; this last one shouldn't be too bad and I'll be done Monday afternoon.

These next several weeks are going to fly by, I think.  Within three weeks I will have:

  • finished up another year of school
  • attended a graduation
  • ended one job
  • started a new job
  • gone on a Discernment Retreat
  • attended an ordination

How's that for busy??  Well, back to the books for a couple more days...

Sending an ark home...

After Mass this morning, I found a voice message from my mom on my phone informing me that parts of my hometown had flooded early this morning, with water waist-high in some places.  The cause was all the rain that they'd also received last week, plus the 6+ inches of rain overnight.  That's always mildly distressing news, particularly since we have a creek a few feet from our backyard which feeds into the bigger creek which had caused the flash flooding.  They barricated the intersection at the end of our street since there is a bridge going over the creek because it was still raining.  So I spent most of the day worrying about what was going on several hundred miles away.  Meanwhile, I had an exam this afternoon; needless to say I was at least somewhat distracted, so we'll see how that grade comes out.  Luckily, it seems that the rain has stopped, at least temporarily, and the creeks have stopped rising, though apparently the waters are still rushing.  It's always one thing or another.  Well one exam down, three left to go...

Looking for an Ark

The weather here's been great...if you're a farmer.    It has literally been pouring, raining, drizzling, sprinkling, or threatening to do one of the above all day since Tuesday afternoon.  I know April showers bring May flowers and all, but this is a little ridiculous!  I'm half expecting to wake-up and find a half-constructed ark across the street from us where they're still trying to build a new duplex (it's been "under construction" for at least 10 months now...).
